Gen Outdoor

A mobile app built for people who move. Designed to help hikers and trail runners discover routes, track their progress, and connect with a community - all within an interface that holds up as well outdoors as it does on a sofa.

Gen Outdoor — Hero

Concept

The core idea was utility first, aesthetics second but both at the same level of ambition. The app covers trail discovery, route tracking, community rankings, and user profiles in a coherent structure that never feels cluttered. The dark mode was chosen by design, not convention: it reduces eye strain in bright outdoor conditions and gives the UI a focused, serious character.

Visual Direction

A dark base palette offset by an electric green creates immediate visual identity. The green functions as both a brand colour and a functional marker, used for interactive elements, progress indicators and map overlays. The monospace typography reinforces the technical, terrain-focused nature of the product.

UI Design

From onboarding to route detail pages, every screen follows the same logic : clear hierarchy, fast readability, no unnecessary steps. The map view integrates topographic data with trail paths and nearby points of interest, keeping the user oriented at all times. The community and profile sections were designed to motivate without distracting from the core experience.
